The True Riches

Matthew 6:19-20: Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

A man that I knew and worked with spent every possible moment studying stocks and bonds. It was a way of life for him. I lost touch with him before I became saved and often wonder if he ever got the true riches. He was very wealthy financially but God had true riches in store for me. I actually envied him before I was saved. But he lived a miserly life.

2 Timothy 3:16-17: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

God has given me the opportunity and privilege to study the Bible and acquire the true riches. My riches are laid up in Heaven. But they are also multiplying here on earth. As I write Bible studies and share them, I am sharing the greatest wealth that an individual can have. My riches are not just for me, they are for many others. Giving those riches to others does not decrease their value for me. The more I give them to others the more I have of them. The more we share the Bible with others the richer we ourselves will be spiritually. When compared with others I have not really invested very much in the Bible. But it is amazing how greatly it has blessed me. It is far and away the most profitable thing I have ever invested in.

1 Timothy 4:8: For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

Matthew19:21: Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

I don*t know if any of the financial wizards that I knew ever became saved. I was not a Christian when I knew them. I fear that they continued all of their lives investing where moths and rust corrupt and where thieves break through and steal.

Mark 8:36: For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

Moths, rust and thieves cannot steal very much from me. And even when they do God provides everything I need. The true riches is having as my Father the God who created and owns the universe. Whatever little part of it He gives me is and will always be exactly what I need. Having exactly what I need is the true riches.

1 Peter 1:3-5: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
